Strong and secure, 40-foot steel containers are perfect for storage, shipping, housing, or your own unique use. These are a great option when you need to store larger equipment or many items and do not plan on moving the container. They come in two sizes: standard and high cube (HC). 40' standard containers are 8'6' high and high cubes, or 40'HC's, are 9'6' high. Pricing is usually similar, so it is helpful to always ask for both prices.
40' High cube containers tend to be more popular than 40' standard containers. High cubes are a foot taller, thus providing more space. The other benefit is that in some markets, the 40' high cubes are cheaper than 40-foot standards.
There tends to be more 40'HC's in use for commercial shipping, a trend that is only growing. In the one-trip/”new” market, the 40’ high cube is often the only choice as one-trip 40’ standards are not as common as one-trip 40’ high cubes.
10’ containers cannot be commercially shipped internationally, so they have to convert to 10’ containers once they are in the US. There are 2 different ways we get 10’s. One way is what is called a duo-con where two 10’s are stuck together as a 20’ that get split apart when they come to the US. The other way is to take a 20’ and cut it down or cut it in half to make one or two 10’ containers.
45’ High cube containers offer a longer option to 40’ containers. They only come in the high cube height. 45’ High cubes come with a set of corner posts centered 40’ apart so that they can be picked up by cranes and forklifts.
20's also come in the 9'6' height, but they are not as common. They are considered a specialty container and are generally only available in one-trip condition.
